1985 Josef Schett took over his parents' mountain farm (where the family had been living for more than 600 years). Until then, sheep had been kept there exclusive for the family's own use. He makes a deliberate decision to breed sheep. "The only sheep you can keep on the steep alpine pastures of the Schlötteralm are frugal Tirolean mountain sheep, which are well suited to the high alpine climate." Initially lambs, sheep's cheese and yoghurt were supplied to upscale restaurants following a marketing concept that was novel for the time.
1991 The Villgrater Natur house is built - production and sales are largely moved from the farm to this new facility.
1992 New wool, initially just a "by-product", is now used in the making of mattrasses and bedding. Professor Willi Dungl helps with the development of the sleep system (original Villgrater Natur bed).
„House in sheepskin": After much work, the idea of insulating materials made with sheep's wool reaches the point of marketability. Sound insulation felt is awarded the ecological construction and eco selas and within just a few weeks becomes a sales hit.
2007 The Villgrater Natur house is now a popular tourist attraction and needs more space for guests and products. The well-lit "Swiss Pine Room" is located in the generously dimensioned addition and can be used for seminars and parties.
Today More than 20 years after founding the company, Josef Schett processes a third of all sheep's wool in Austria and is constantly coming up with new ideas so that as many people as possible can enjoy the products and lifestyle lived in Villgraten Valley.
